The renovation and optimisation of a tiny studio flat can be quite challenging. The strength of this project lies in the modular layout and the savvy custom-made solutions put in place in order to optimize the space and turn this inhospitable room into a comfortable place to live.
This 8 m² maid’s room, located in the 17th district of Paris close to the Arc de Triomphe, was renovated and optimised in order to create a cozy place to live with all the comfort needed.
This maid’s room was in very poor condition and needed a full renovation.
A water-resistant exotic wooden floor was installed and all the walls were painted in white in order to bring more light to this maid’s room which is located on the ground floor.
A custom built convertible sofa with storage drawers was put in the living room space as well as a flat screen TV and a foldable table.
The open kitchen was equipped with a large wooden worktop that could also be used as a working space. A fridge was installed as well as an oven, portable hot plates and washing machine, hidden inside the kitchen closets.
The boat layouts was a source of inspiration for designing the modular shower area in the entrance of the room. Indeed, in the maid’s rooms, it is rare to be able to create a real bathroom without significantly encroaching on the living space. The configuration of this room has allowed the creation of a real bathroom space with a sink in the entrance of the studette. A false ceiling has been installed to accommodate lighting and VMC. The shower tray was recessed into the floor and a hatch was created to be folded down when the shower was not in use. A compact washbasin and a minimalist bathroom wall cabinet were installed, and white wall tiles were laid over the entire corridor.
A mezzanine sleeping area holding a double bed was created. Closets and shelves were hung at the wall and an open wardrobe system was installed. A large storage space was also created above the false ceiling of the shower area, to store suitcases and all the other bulky objects of everyday life.
After the renovation, the maid’s room included: a living room area with a custom-made corner sofa that could be converted into a 1-seater and 2-seater bed, a flat-screen TV, a kitchen equipped with a fridge, freezer, washing machine, hob, oven, a double mezzanine bed with shelves, as well as various storage spaces, a folding dining table, and a bathroom area with a modular shower and a sink.
